We at Jazz Generation are grateful to have received a Creative Learning Grant from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council! Our idea was simple; to combine our two youth programs in a unique way to empower our students and urge them not only to perform jazz music, but to be prepared to teach it to their peers and others.

We are hiring five professional jazz musicians to act as mentors to our students in our Jazz Standard Youth Orchestra. They will be there to guide the students in choosing repertoire, preparing lessons, focusing on presentation and oratory skills etc. Those students will in turn act as peer mentors to students in our Jazz Discovery Program and teach their peers and younger students about the wonders of jazz including improvisation, history, and more.
